I've used this LA several times and I thought it was very helpful in finding problems. This allows the LA to capture larger periods of time. A scope captures the shape of the transition while a LA just captures the transitions. The type of application you describe sounds like a better fit for a logic analyzer.

I don't know if the code for the USB o'scope is open source or not. The USB connection isn't fast enough (or the scope can't send data fast enough) to capture the data live so it's captured by the device and then sent to the PC for storage after the sampling period is over (I'm not sure about this). I think the data limitation is due to the limited memory of the scope. I think the scope uses a SX chip internally. The OTC looks fine but has a less advanced offline software, which may or may not matter much. I don't know what Miller actually brings to the table other than maybe service and distribution. It's our understanding that the best system Miller sells is actually a Panasonic GIII Tawers robot with a Panasonic Welder and Panasonic Controls. We are looking at Miller and OTC robots currently. The controls looked and felt like they were from 1992. We demoed a Lincoln robot and were thoroughly unimpressed. I'm aware that we will need to have excellent fitup and comprehensive jigs, and that is not an issue. We have decided that we want to get a welding robot, but haven't seen anything too impressive.
